(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCTOBER 1 - Serbia's majority state-owned telecommunications company Telekom Srbija, one of the leading in the Balkan country, is interested in acquiring Telekom Albania, the second largest telecommunications operator in Albania, the Serbian B92 info portal confirmed today. "The goal of Telekom Srbija is to position itself as a regional leader in the field of telecommunications," Telekom said, as reported by B92. "We have submitted a bid and it is now under review," Telekom added, without revealing any details.

B92 quoted also the General Manager of Telekom Srbija, Predrag Culibrk, saying that "we are thinking about acquiring operators in Serbia and in the Serb Republic" in Bosnia-Herzegovina, "where we are already present with multimedia services, the idea being to improve our market position in the domain of multimedia." According to other specialized media, also two Bulgarian telecommunications companies, Vivacom and Globul Telecom, are running for acquiring Telekom Albania, currently controlled by Deutsche Telekom.
