Justin Rose among stars at Open Italia

Former World No. 1 says Olgiata tournament 'special'

Redazione ANSA Rome

(ANSA) - Rome, July 5 - An Olympic champion will be at the 2019 Open Italia tournament.
Great Britain's Justin Rose, who won a gold medal at the Rio Games in 2016, will be one of the top players at the 76th edition of Italy's top golf competition scheduled on October 10-13 in Rome.
The former World No. 1, who is now fourth in the ranking, will be at the Olgiata Golf Club near the Italian capital 17 years after the last time.
He will be vying to win the third title of his career in the Rolex Series - after his two wins in the Turkish Airlines Open 2017 and 2018 editions.
The British champion said the tournament is "special", one of the "best on the European circuit", which will be disputed in the Eternal City that is gearing up to host the Ryder Cup in 2022.
Rose said he was "enthusiastic" about going back to Italy, in particular Rome, "one of the world's most iconic cities".
"Italian fans are wonderful, they love sport".
Rose added that, with the Ryder Cup drawing closer and Francesco Molinari's victories, the Open Italia will be something "to remember".
After Francesco "Chicco" Molinari and Thorbjorn Olesen (the current champion), here is Rose. The protagonists of the European triumph at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris are ready to compete in Rome at an event with an overall purse of seven million dollars.
The captains of "The 3rd Junior Road to The 2022 Ryder Cup" have also been announced.
The match is a competition among the 12 best players of the Under 14 category of Team Lazio and the 12 best Under 14 of the Italian team.
It will be held on October 9 ahead of the main challenge. The Team Italia will be led by Alessia Nobilio (who has just won the Vagliano Trophy), while Dylan De Prosperis will be leading the Lazio team.
