(ANSA) - Rome, June 11 - Golfer Dustin Johnson has won the
FedEx St. Jude Classic and regained the top ranking worldwide.
He had been surpassed by Justin Thomas for a month, who is
now back in 2nd place ahead of the U.S. Open scheduled for June
14-17.
Johnson will be taking part after dominating the last round
of the TGA Tour, ending with 261 (67 63 65 66, -19), 6 over his
fellow American Andrew Putnam (2nd at -13).
In third place was John Holmes (-9) and tied for fourth were
Stewart Cink and Richy Werenski (-8).
Phil Mickelson finished in 12th place (-6).
Johnson has thus made a comeback in Memphis, Tennessee,
proving skeptics who said his time in the golf spotlight was
over wrong.
The 33-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina, is now hoping
to win the U.S. Open to achieve a double win no golfer ever has
before.
