(ANSA) - Milan, September 27 - The 74th Italian Open golf
tournament, taking place this year on October 12-15 at the Golf
Club Milano in the Royal Park of Monza, promises to be a
spectacular event, with a record seven million euros in prize
money and 25 of the top 100 golfers in the world set to compete.
The tournament is the tip of the diamond on the path towards
the Ryder Cup 2022 in Rome.
The tournament will be presented in Milan by Federgolf
President Franco Chimenti, Lombardy Regional Governor Roberto
Maroni, Sport Minister Luca Lotti, Italian National Olympic
Committee (CONI) President Giovanni Malagò, General Manager of
the Ryder Cup 2022 Gian Paolo Montali, and Infront Italy CEO
Luigi De Siervo.
It's difficult to choose a player favored to win among the
participants in this year's tournament, but among the most
highly anticipated of the competitors are two ranked among the
top 10 worldwide: John Rahm (#5) and Sergio Garcia (#10).
There are another six ranked in the top 50, including #18
Francesco Molinari, who will be looking to clinch his third
title at the Italian Open, Italy's most important golf
tournament, which has never seen such high stakes.
In another first for the event, there will be seven Majors
winners competing.
