G7 base to restart Moscow ties-Alfano

(ANSA) - New York, March 20 - The G7 summit in Taormina in May will be a base to restart relations with Russia, Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano told ANSA Monday. "In a week's time I'll be in Moscow, bilateral dialogue continues, but it is clear that unless the implementation of the Minsk protocol is freed up it is hard to imagine an invite for Russia in the G7 ambit". He said "the goal, perhaps not for this G7, is to supersede sanctions, because we consider them an instrument to realise the Minsk accords, not an end to aim for. No sensible person can aim to exclude Russia".
