Commissioner Pierre Moscovici on Monday welcomed "pro-European"
remarks by House Speaker Roberto Fico in a meeting in Brussels.
Moscovici, who has been at odds with Italian leaders
including Deputy Premiers Matteo Salvini and Luigi Di Maio,
Fico's party leader, said "the discussion with Roberto Fico was
positive: an appreciable pro-European discourse".
He said it was "a first contact which has enabled us to
better understand our respective positions. The more relaxed the
climate is, the more constructive our dialogue can be".
Fico said it was time to "cool down, political dialogue is
needed" in a budget wrangle.
He said there should be no "prejudices" between Italy and the
EU, and work should be done on the budget.
