Tuesday's attack on a
public army-run school in Peshawar ended with a final death toll
of 135 people, mostly children and adolescents, Pakistani police
have said.
Security forces killed all six Taliban attackers and late
in the day continued checking that "no one is left" in the
building.
Meanwhile, United States President Barack Obama condemned
"in the strongest possible terms" the "horrific" attack, saying
the terrorists had "shown their depravity" by targeting students
and teachers.
Likewise, 2014 Nobel Peace Laureate Malala Yousafzai,
herself from Pakistan, said she was "heartbroken" by "this
senseless and cold-blooded act of terror"
"Innocent children in their school have no place in horror
such as this," said Yousafzai.
"I condemn these atrocious and cowardly acts and stand
united with the government and armed forces of Pakistan whose
efforts so far to address this horrific event are commendable,"
said the 17-year-old who was shot in the head by the Taliban in
2012 and won global acclaim for her advocacy of women's right to
education.
"I, along with millions of others around the world, mourn
these children, my brothers and sisters - but we will never be
defeated," Malala said.
Earlier in the day, Italian Premier Matteo Renzi also
condemned the "horrible" acts.
