European Union foreign
ministers assembled at a Luxembourg summit called Monday for
international efforts in the fight against Ebola to be united
under the aegis of the United Nations (UN).
The Foreign Affairs Council meeting also welcomed the UN
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's decision to establish the first
UN emergency healthcare mission, the UN Mission for Ebola
Emergency Response (UNMEER). UNMEER will be based in Accra,
capital of Ghana.
The move represents an important step forward in global
efforts to contain the epidemic, coordinate international
responses to the virus, and to take national leadership, the EU
foreign ministers said Monday in a statement.
