European Union economic sanctions
against Russia are "reckless" and will cause European energy
market prices to "skyrocket", Russian Foreign Ministry said in a
statement on Wednesday.
"Placing obstacles to cooperation with Russia in the energy
sector is a reckless and irresponsible measure", Foreign
Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a statement, adding that the
sanctions are "anti-Russian and showcase the European Union's
incapacity to hold an autonomous role in international affairs".
On Tuesday, European Union members unanimously agreed on
stiffer, targeted sanctions against sectors of the Russian
economy over the crisis in Ukraine.
The sanctions will target Russia's oil sector, defense and
certain technologies.
Western nations have accused Russia of contributing to the
Ukrainian conflict by providing weapons and support for
pro-Russian separatist forces.
