European Union members agreed
unanimously on stiffer, targeted sanctions against sectors of
the Russian economy over the crisis in Ukraine, a diplomat said
Tuesday.
The sanctions will target Russia's oil sector, defence and
certain technologies, the diplomat said.
Meanwhile, United States Secretary of State John Kerry and
his counterpart in Russia Sergei Lavrov agreed on the need to
stop the fighting in eastern Ukraine around the site where
Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 crashed, killing almost 300
people on board.
Western nations have accused Russia of contributing to the
Ukrainian conflict by providing weapons and support for
pro-Russian separatist forces.
