Pope Francis said at
the traditional year-end Te Deum in St Peter's basilica Monday
that "we must stop and reflect with pain and repentance because,
also during this year coming to an end, so many men and women
have lived and are living in conditions of slavery, unworthy of
human beings".
He said "also in our city of Rome there are brothers and
sisters who, for various reasons, find themselves in this state.
"I'm thinking in particular of how many live without a home.
There are more than 10,000 of them," he said, and "in winter
their situation is particularly hard".
