Pope Francis spoke out
against disinformation by the media on Wednesday, saying it can
be "very harmful" to give only part of the truth.
"By giving the listener or viewer only half the truth he is
not able to form a serious opinion," Francis said in an
interview with 'Tertio'.
"Disinformation is probably the most damaging thing the media
can provide since it sends public opinion in one direction while
overlooking the other part of the truth," the pope continued.
"And then I think the media needs to be very clear, very
transparent, and not fall victim to the desire always to
communicate scandals, ugly things, even if they are true,"
Francis said.
"But (the media) are opinion builders and they can build and
do a huge amount of good," he concluded.
