Pope Francis on Wednesday
brushed off talk of "religious wars" after knife-wielding
Islamist extremists murdered an elderly Catholic priest while he
was saying Mass yesterday in France.
"There are no religious wars," Francis said. "Wars are
waged out of interest, for money, for natural resources and for
power over others," he said.
"All religions want peace, do you understand?"
Asked about the murder of Father Jacques Hamel, Francis
said simply: "I would like to thank all those who sent their
condolences as well as the French president (Francois Hollande),
who called me like a brother would. Thank you."
