Europe is too selfish in
dealing with masses of refugees fleeing war zones in Africa and
the Middle East, the president of the Pontifical Council for the
Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerants said Friday.
Europe is "too egotistical" and has "lost... its qualities
of hospitality, respect, human development," Cardinal Antonio
Maria Vegliò told Vatican Radio.
"(Europe) has closed in on itself," Vegliò said.
"Even the Scandinavian countries, which have traditionally
always been the most welcoming, are astonishing - Sweden wants
to send 80,000 away,so does Finland. Denmark (is) taking all
these people's assets," Veglio said.
"The response Europe is giving isn't a European response,"
he said.
