Vatican Secretary of State
Pietro Parolin on Wednesday called for more interfaith peace
initiatives during the pope's Jubilee year, which begins
December 8.
"We hope more joint initiatives from the different world
religious traditions will bear new fruits of peace during the
imminent Jubilee Year of Mercy," the cardinal said in reference
to the Interfaith Days of Peace in Assisi, first called for by
Pope John Paul II in 1986.
"Guaranteeing individual liberties is essential, but
thinking one can do so through war is absurd," Parolin said.
