Pope meets refugees and asylum seekers

'Looked us in the eyes and understood all our suffering'

(ANSA) - Turin, June 22 - Pope Francis met with about 20 immigrant refugees and asylum seekers at the archbishop's residence on Monday, the second day of his two-day visit to Turin.
"He looked us in the eyes and in just moments he understood all of our suffering," said Kasem, a 23-year-old from Egypt.
Mamadou, 36, a former political party leader in his home country who escaped after his brother was killed and he received death threats, said, "I took the liberty of asking him to appeal to the world's powerful to stop the weapons factories".
"It was emotional. The Holy Father devoted the proper attention to everyone," said Sergio Durando, of the diocese's pastoral office for immigrants.
