Christians must work for the common good, including through politics, Pope Francis said Thursday. "In the face of a culture of illegality, of corruption and of confrontation, you are called to dedicate yourselves to the common good, including through that service to the people that is...politics," the pontiff said in a speech delivered to two lay associations in a hearing. "If Christians were to withdraw from direct commitment in politics, this would be a betrayal of the mission of the lay faithful," Francis said.
