Pope Francis says 'pure scandal' women earn less than men

Christians should support equal pay, pontiff says

(ANSA) - Vatican City, April 29 - Pope Francis said Wednesday that it is "pure scandal" that women often receive lower pay than men for doing the same job.
Speaking during his weekly audience in St Peter's Square, the pontiff said "as Christians we must become more demanding, for example, by supporting the right of equal pay for equal work, why should it be taken for granted that women must earn less than men? The disparity is pure scandal," Francis said.
