Pope Francis has
increased the size of the supervisory board managing the
Institute of Religious Works (IOR), the formal name of the
Vatican bank, from five to six cardinal members, officials said
Thursday.
The number of cardinals on the IOR's Vigilance Committee of
cardinals also increases from five to six under the terms of a
"rescriptum" or re-writing of the rules signed by the pontiff,
Vatican sources said.
The president of the Vigilance committee, Cardinal Santos
Abril y Castello also has formalised the nomination of a
non-voting secretary general for the supervisory board, IOR said
in a statement.
The changes took effect January 10. The Vatican Bank has
been the subject of extensive efforts by the Argentinian pope to
reform the finances of the Holy See.
