Pope Francis landed back in
Rome at about 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday after a quick trip to
Strasbourg where he gave two speeches, one to the European
Parliament and the other to the Council of Europe.
The papal flight, on an Alitalia Airbus A320, had left Rome
early in the day laden with Vatican officials and about 50
journalists.
The pope had urged European leaders to pull together a
"united response" to the waves of migrants arriving on the
continent, and to find ways to develop flexible, functioning
labour policies to create essential employment.
He warned that Europe was beginning to look elderly and
haggard and had to find a way to rejuvenate itself.
