The authority of a
Christian comes exclusively from the spirit of God, Pope Francis
said during a homily on Tuesday.
"You can have five degrees in theology, but not have the
Spirit of God!" Francis told faithful gathered for Mass at the
Santa Marta guesthouse in the Vatican where he has been living
since being elected pope in March 2013.
"Maybe you'll be a great theologian, but you are not a
Christian because you do not have the Spirit of God!" he added.
The Christian identity is given not by the "spirit of the
world" but by the "spirit of Christ", the Argentine pontiff
said.
"That which gives authority, that which gives identity is
the Holy Spirit, the anointing of the Holy Spirit," he
concluded.
