The newly appointed chief
of the Vatican Bank, Jean-Baptiste de Franssu, on Thursday sent
a letter to clients asking for their "tireless and constant"
collaboration.
"Together we will work to return the institute to its true
objective, which is to serve the Church in its evangelical and
pastoral mission," wrote de Franssu, who was appointed in July
in an effort to rid the bank, known as the Institute for
Religious Works (IOR), of its reputation as a money-laundering
establishment.
The IOR has recently closed more than 3,000 suspect or
inactive accounts and is moving into a second phase of a
clean-up aimed at ending its years as a tax haven.
Efficiency, integrity, security and observing the law will
be the new watchwords at the bank, which is making changes in
order to adapt to international standards, Franssu wrote.
