Universiade: torch to arrive

(ANSA) - Naples, June 25 - Caserta is preparing to welcome the Universiade 2019 torch on June 26. Departure is slated for 6 PM, when the first of 15 torchbearers will start from the University of Caserta in Viale Ellittico on route of almost two kilometres, during which several athletes will take turns carrying the torch: Biagio Sergio, captain of the Pallacanestro Sporting Club Juvecaserta, Clemente Santonastaso, head coach of the youth section of US Casertana Calcio, Sara Maria Kowalczyk, world fencing champion for the under-20 category, Angelo Musone, Olympic silver medalist in boxing, Valeria Tedesco, figure skating champion, Riccardo Zimmermann, world champion in Paralympic taekwondo, and Elio Verde, judo world champion. The torch will also go to Reggia di Caserta, one of the most beautiful royal palaces i the world, which has also been called the "Versailles d'Italia", while the last torchbearer will be Adam Sotiriadis, FISU general coordinator, to the Monumento ai Caduti in Piazza IV Novembre.
    Welcoming the torch will be the local institutions of Terra di Lavoro and the Naples 2019 organising committee.
    In addition to being one of the headquarters of the athletes village, Caserta and the surrounding province will be used for the training and competitions: July 2-8 at Caserta's Stadio Pinto, where football qualifying matches will be held; July 3-9 at Aversa's Palajacazzi, where there will be the men's and women's basketball tournaments: at Caserta's Stadio del Nuoto July 2-12 for water polo, with the qualifying matches for the men's tournament.
