Universiade: Italian president and PM

To showcase Italy to the world, says Commissioner Basile

(ANSA) - Salerno, June 20 - The commissioner for the Naples Universiade 2019, Gianluca Basile, said Thursday that both the Italian president and prime minister had confirmed they would be attending the opening ceremony.
"The president had long ago given his confirmation. Yesterday I learned that Prime Minister (Giuseppe) Conte will also be with us for the opening ceremony," he said on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony for sports facilities at the Baronissi campus. "These presences," Basile said, "are a source of satisfaction for an event that is taking on the character of a national one, a showcase of Italy in the world." He added that "here on the Baronissi campus we carried out works and we are getting ready for the celebration"' and "one thousand athletes from 128 countries" are a large number. It also, he said, serves as "a unique chance to show off the beauty of the campus, the only university campus that will host the event in its spaces, and of the sports facilities, dorms and cafeteria." The commissioner said that he was "happy with the consolidated synergy with the University of Salerno and with all the other institutions" that worked "together for a great representation of Campania and its potential".
