Italy's Giovanni Malagò won
applause at an assembly of Olympic committees in Japan on
Wednesday as he presented the Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo bid to
host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
"Our candidature starts from the local regions, in full
respect of the 2020 agenda with which the IOC has given its
guidelines for the Olympics of the future," Italian Olympic
Committee (CONI) President Malagò said.
"I'm sure that the Milan-Cortina 2026 dream will become
reality".
The bid's logo was unveiled during the 20-minute presentation
too.
It features a mountain in the red, white and green of the
Italian flag in the shape of Milan's Duomo with a skiing piste
in the middle.
The Milan-Cortina bid is up against one being staged by
Stockholm.
"Great, really great," said IAAF President Sebastian Coe of
the presentation.
