The torch for the 30th Universiade World University Games, scheduled to take place in Naples July 3-14, 2019, will depart from Turin, according to Commissioner Gianluca Basile, general director of the Regional Agency for the Universiade (ARU).
Basile spoke at the directors' planning meeting that took place on Friday at Santa Lucia Palace, headquarters of the Region of Campania offices.
The design of the torch was approved on November 20 and an agreement was stipulated with the Italian University Sport Centre (CUSI) for the route.
The departure will take place in the Piedmont regional capital city, where the first Universiade Games took place, followed by a stop in Lausanne, where the headquarters of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) is located.
The torch will then travel to the Vatican in Rome, prior to arriving in Campania for the start of the Games.
The updated plan discussed at Friday's meeting took into account the possibility of using the rugby stadium at the former NATO base owned by the Banco Foundation of Naples.
A remodeling project for Field A at the Afragola stadium was also added to the plan, following uncertainty over the possibility of using the Albricci stadium in Naples as the main rugby venue.
