Lavinia Biagiotti has been awarded the seventh 'Mecenate dello Sport - Varaldo Di Pietro' prize.
Biagiotti was handed the special award for a patron of sports due to her role in promoting Italy's Rider Cup, the historic golf challenge between the United States and Europe, scheduled to take place in Rome in 2022.
"Sport for me represents joy, courage and the future", said Biagiotti, who is president and CEO of the Biagiotti fashion group founded by her mother Laura.
"After handing awards to many athletes, today I am receiving one and for this reason I am very exited".
"I am not an athlete but I feel part of team Italy", concluded Biagiotti.
The 2018 journalistic prize in economy and sports went to Roberta Sommella, the director for external and institutional relations of the Antitrust Authority.
The event in Rome, which was presented by sports journalist Enrico Varriale of State broadcaster RAI and is organized by the Foundation Varaldo Di Pietro under the patronage of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the journalists' guild, included awards for the special athletes of the Italian national Golf team who will attend the world Special Olympics scheduled in March 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
The event is aimed at supporting people with intellectual disabilities and creating a more inclusive society.
