The body of Davide Astori lay in
state at Italy's training camp at Coverciano outside Florence as
crowds paid tribute to the late Fiorentina captain who died of a
heart attack in an Udine hotel on Saturday at the age of 31.
Players including Ciro Immobile and Gabriel Batistuta sent
messages.
The Lazio striker said "it's a big blow, we're close to the
family" and said he was sorry he would not be able to attend the
funeral Thursday because of Lazio's Europa League tie with
Dynamo Kiev.
Fiorentina legend Batistuta said "I'm shocked, it was an
unacceptable death".
AC Milan coach Rino Gattuso said Astori was an "impeccable
lad, already mature at the age of 16" when he was in the Milan
youth team.
