The first green card for fair
play ever awarded in Italian soccer has gone to a Serie B player
who told the ref a corner for his side was in fact a goal kick
for the other one.
Vicenza forward Cristian Galano's gesture in a game
against Entella was hailed by Vicenza President Andrea Abodi as
"a symbolic moment of great value for Italian soccer" and "an
example that must be followed".
The head of the Italian Referees' Association AIA, Marcello
Nicchi, said the collaboration with the Lega B "helps improve
the spectacle on the field and sporting culture off it".
The green card for "special and exemplary" instances of fair
play was formally introduced in the second tier in January but
not awarded until now.
