Naples Mayor Luigi de Magistris
on Monday joined many Napoli fans in accusing Gonzalo Higuain of
betrayal, with the Argentina forward set to join Italian
champions Juventus.
The Turin giants are reportedly set to use a buy-out
clause of over 90 million euros in Higuain's contract with
Napoli to land the forward.
The 28-year-old is reportedly set to earn an annual salary
of 7.5 million euros.
"It a serious betrayal of those who, like me, continue to
follow football with passion," de Magistris said.
Former Napoli and Argentina great Diego Maradona also
expressed his dismay at the move.
"This Higuain affair is hurting me because he is going to
a direct rival like Juventus," Maradona said on his Facebook
page.
"But we cannot blame the player either. A player has a
responsibility to himself and it is those fat cats of business
that are grinning the most in this case.
"Nobody thinks of the fan. I'm tired of saying that today
it seems to be more important to be a good businessman than a
good president".
