Giro d'Italia leader Steven
Kruijswijk fell heavily shortly after passing the Col Agnel,
this year's highest point or Cima Coppi, after going wide on a
descent and crashing into the roadside ice and snow.
Kruijswijk had to stop and fix his bike before setting off
after Vincenzo Nibali and Esteban Chaves who were with him.
But soon afterwards he had to change bike, falling one
minute 15 seconds behind Nibali and Chaves, with Belgium's
Maxime Monfort out in front on his own.
Nibali, who has underperformed so far, is 4'43'' behind
Kruijswijk in the general classification.
Friday's stage will likely decide this year's winner.
