Some 72,000 police - 42,000 police
officers and 30,000 gendarmes - will protect Euro 2016, French
Interior Minister Berbard Cazeneuve told a press conference
Wednesday, two weeks before the start of the tournament. Teams
will also be protected by 3-6 agents from the special
anti-terror forces GIGN and RAID, depending on their risk
factor, he said. Cazeneuve also said France would be ready to
deal with an attack by chemical weapons. "Our goal is to be
ready in 16 days for all possibilities, from a chemical attack
to hostage taking, and panic-driven crowd movements," he said.
