Genoa defender Armando Izzo on
Tuesday denied any wrongdoing after being put under
investigation in relation to allegations that the Camorra mafia
fixed two matches disputed by his former club, Avellino, in
Serie B in 2014.
"I have absolutely nothing to do with it. I have faith in
the judiciary," he told Skysport. "I feel like I'm living in a
nightmare. The only thing I remember is that I was injured in
those two matches and I didn't even play. Now I feel a little
dejected after reading these things".
Investigators suspect a Camorra clan used major sums to
corrupt players to influence the results of two matches
-Avellino's 3-0 win over Reggina and Modena's 1-0 win over
Avellino.
Izzo, 24, took part in a pre-Euro 2016 training camp with
the Italian national team last week but did not make the cut for
the preliminary 30-man squad announced Monday.
Two other former Avellino players were among 10 people
arrested on Monday - both were put under house arrest.
