Italy's Federica Pellegrini
said on Thursday that it would be the "right moment" for her to
retire from competitive swimming after the 2016 Olympic Games in
Rio de Janeiro.
"At 28 years old, after having won everything, done
everything that I should have done, I think that is the right
moment for me," she said during a news conference in
Saint-Vincent.
Pellegrini won silver in the 200-metre freestyle at the
2004 Athens Olympics at the age of 16, and went on to win gold
in the 200 metres at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
She also has four world championship golds and four
silvers.
