A new club representing the
northern city of Parma, Parma Calcio 1913, has been admitted to
the fourth-tier of Italian soccer, Serie D, after the city's
previous club went bankrupt.
On Tuesday a judge gave Parma Calcio 1913 the right to
rent the Collecchio training facility of the now-defunct Parma
FC, which won the European Cup-winners Cup in 1993 and the UEFA
Cup in 1995 and 1999.
Parma Calcio 1913 is backed by pasta maker Guido Barilla,
among others, and is chaired by former coach Nevio Scala, who
led the club to its European triumphs.
Parma FC finished last in Serie A amid financial chaos and
were declared bankrupt with debts of more than 200 million
euros.
