Parma coach Roberto Donadoni said Monday that there was no need for the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) to open a probe after alleging that Napoli suggested his side should gift Sunday's Serie A encounter between the sides.
Donadoni, whose club recently went bankrupt, are bottom of the Serie A standings and doomed to relegation to the second tier, alleged Napoli players and directors said Parma might as well lose as they were already belly up at the end of a bad-tempered 2-2 draw.
But on Monday the former Italy boss suggested Napoli's jibes were a way to get under his players' skin, rather than a real attempt at match-fixing.
"If the federation prosecutors opened a probe into Parma v Napoli, it would seem absurd to me," he told the Naples-based CrC radio station.
"It would mean adding stupidity to stupidity. I don't think Napoli wanted the game gifted to them".
Sources at Napoli said that Donadoni had given no evidence that their players wanted Parma to roll over, arguing they only berated their opponents for time wasting.
