New Italian Soccer Federation
(FIGC) President Carlo Tavecchio said he would explain "my
mistake and my real intentions" after UEFA opened a probe
Wednesday into alleged racist remarks during his recent campaign
to become FIGC chief.
He said he was "serene and respectful of UEFA's decision" to
probe the alleged "banana-eating" comment.
Tavecchio, elected to replace Giancarlo Abete who quit after
Italy's World Cup debacle, said the FIGC had been expecting the
probe as a "due act".
"I am certain I will be able to explain, also in the UEFA
forum, both my mistake and my real intentions."
