Ferrara-based rugby side the
Roosters will don their new Rainbow colour shirts at a sevens
tournament this weekend after linking up with Italian gay
association Arcigay.
"With pride, we will bring the colors of the rainbow flag
to the field," said Roosters spokesman Alberto Fogagnolo ahead
of Sunday's Flowers of Montelago tournament near Ancona.
"Sport must carry forward values against racism and
discrimination.
"In other parts of the world this already has been going on
for some time and and now is the time to do the same, with
strength, in Italy too".
"I once again thank the Roosters for having proposed this
important partnership which allows us to carry forward our
cultural battle even in areas where the gender stereotypes tend
to rule," Arcigay president Flavio Romani said.
The Roosters will also showcase the new team jersey at
Padua's Pride festival on Thursday.
