Ferrovie dello Stato (FS),
the Italian state railways company, said on Tuesday it will put
600 new regional trains on Italian tracks by 2023 as part of a
six-billion-euro investment.
Nine of the new trains are expected on the rails by May.
The new trains - "Rock" by Hitachi Rail and "Pop" by Alstrom
- had their world premiere at InnoTrans 2018, the international
trade fair for transport technology, where Italian Transport
Minister Danilo Toninellißwas in attendance.
Gianfranco Battisti, the new CEO of FS, said the company has
asked manufacturers to increase production to 14 new trains per
month so that by 2023 FS can meet an annual demand of 450
million trips.
