Over one thousand participants per day are expected for the Italy 5 Days orienteering event.
The event will take place between June 30 and July 4 in the Dolomites area between Auronzo di Cadore, Misurina, Valgrande and Padola in the Belluno province.
Promoted by CO 5 Days Italy in collaboration with the town councils in Auronzo and Comelico Superiore and DMO Dolomiti in the Belluno provincial government, 30 nations and over 5,000 people will be taking part - including 153 Italians - over the week of competitions.
The event is important for an area that is focusing ever more on attracting tourists even in off-season.
For Italy, Sebastian Inderst and Anna Caglio are among those that will be taking part.
Among the testers will be Riccardo and Tommaso Scalet. The former is one of the most closely watched up-and-coming stars of Italian orienteering.
The young athletes of the Regioni di Orienteering project will be taking part as well under coach Emiliano Corona as a way to gain significant competition experience.
About 70 volunteers are involved in the organization of the event from several Italian regions, especially Lombardy and Puglia - which have both registered as candidate to host the next editions of the event.
5 Days Italy is meant as an opportunity to shed light on the territory itself.
Most of the sponsors are local, such as Caffè Bristot, Birra del Grillo, Cantina Pian delle Vette, Formaggio Piave, Intersocks and Melinda apples
