Catania prosecutors on Wednesday
sent notification that they have requested a probe into Premier
Giuseppe Conte, Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio and Transport
Minister Danilo Toninelli in relation to the Diciotti case to be
dropped, premier's office sources said.
The investigation was opened after Conte, Di Maio and
Toninelli said that Interior Minister Matteo Salvini's decision
to refuse to allow migrants rescued by the Diciotti coast guard
ship in August to disembark for several days was in line with
the stance of the whole government.
This week the Senate's immunity panel voted to reject a
request from the Catania prosecutors to proceed with charges
against Salvini, who is also deputy premier and League leader.
