Val d'Aosta regional councillor
Marco Sorbara was arrested and brought to jail on Wednesday as
part of a Carabinieri police operation against infiltration by
the Calabrian-based 'Ndrangheta mafia, investigative sources
said.
Sorbara formerly served as a city councillor in Aosta.
The regional assembly suspended its work on Wednesday morning
upon learning of Sorbara's arrest and is set to recommence work
on Wednesday afternoon.
Val d'Aosta Governor Emily Rini called the arrest "very
serious" and said it "hits at the heart of our assembly".
"We will wait to better understand the details of this sad
event," she said.
