Premier Giuseppe Conte defended
his government's budget for 2019, describing it as "solid and
effective", after the European Commission rejected it on
Wednesday.
"I will take a detained plan of our reforms to Brussels,"
Conte said via Facebook.
"I am at work, along with the whole government team, to make
the country more competitive and put into place the conditions
for real economic and social growth.
"We are moving forward in the conviction that this is also
the best way to reduce the (public) debt, with advantages for
our country and for Europe too".
Conte said his executive was ready for "constructive"
dialogue with the Commission.
"On Saturday I'll meet (Commission) President (Jean-Claude)
Juncker. I'll show him the budget's framework, inspiration and
characteristics to highlight its solidity and effectiveness.
"I am willing to evaluate the next steps with Juncker".
