Deputy Premier and Interior
Minister Matteo Salvini on Thursday called on magistrates to
drop a criminal case against him over his refusal to allow over
100 migrants saved by the Coast Guard to get off the Diciotti
ship during a 10-day stand-off with the EU in August.
The League leader, who is under investigation for alleged
kidnapping, was reacting after a ministers' court in Palermo
passed the case to prosecutors in Catania.
"Incredible, the investigation into me continues: I'm
allegedly a kidnapper (I risk 15 years in prison) for having
stopped a ship loaded with immigrants.
"Now the probe, which started in Agrigento, will go from
Palermo to Catania... close it here and let me get on with my
job!".
