Deputy Premier and Labour and
Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio said Tuesday that his 5-Star
Movement (M5S) will not be making alliances at the European
level with rightwing figures such as Hungarian Prime Minister
Victor Orban or French National Rally party leader Marine Le
Pen.
He was speaking after fellow Deputy Premier and Interior
Minister Matteo Salvini, the leader of the M5S's government
coalition partners, the League, attended an event with Le Pen in
Rome on Monday ahead of next year's European elections.
"Orban and Le Pen have nothing to do with us," Di Maio said.
"We are neither a rightwing, nor a leftwing group.
"Orban and Le Pen are rightwing and they are the League's
partners, not ours".
Lower House Speaker and M5S bigwig Roberto Fico echoed those
comments, saying the M5S would never sit with Le Pen.
