Deputy Premier and Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio told a meeting of fellow ministers from his 5-Star Movement (M5S) late on Tuesday that the M5S will not vote for the DEF economic blueprint if it does not feature the 'citizenship wage' basic income, sources said. "The DEF must be courageous," Di Maio said at the meeting, according to the sources.
He said that if the M5S will not vote for the DEF if it does not have the basic income, his movement's flagship election-campaign pledge, and other key parts of the government programme such as a pension overhaul and compensation for investors cheated out of savings by banks, the sources said.
