Premier Giuseppe Conte on
Monday said that Interior Minister Matteo Salvini's new decree
on security and migrants fully respects human rights.
"Within a framework of the absolute guarantee of the rights
of people and of (international) treaties, we are revising
legislation to make it more effective," Conte told a press
conference after his cabinet approved the decree.
"There are measures against the mafia and terrorism.
"We have unified the laws on migrants and security in a
single legislative structure that is more functional, in part
because of the complementary nature of the issues.
"The aim is to reorganize the whole system of recognising
international protection to come in line with European
standards.
"We realised that there are significant misalignments with
respect to other European countries".
