Naples prosecutors have
opened a file into Campania Governor Vincenzo De Luca's recent
controversial urging of 300 mayors to campaign for a Yes vote in
the December 4 Constitutional reform referendum, judicial
sources said Thursday, but for the moment no charges have been
mooted. De Luca met the mayors at a Naples hotel and urged them
to campaign in favour of approving the government's overhaul of
Italy's political machinery. According to Italian media reports,
he said they should use "clients and presents". Critics have
said this could constitute instigation to vote-buying.
