Chinese President Xi Jinping
landed in Sardinia Wednesday on his way from the 22nd United
Nations Climate Change Conference (COP22) in the Moroccan city
of Marrakech.
Xi is scheduled to meet with Italian Premier Matteo Renzi on
the island region this evening, after a visit to the ancient
Roman and pre-Roman town of Nora this afternoon.
The meeting is unofficial, but analysts say the two leaders
will likely touch on the new economic outlook after the victory
of U.S. president-elect Donald Trump, an avowed trade
protectionist. Renzi - who met with Xi on the sidelines of a G20
summit in September in the Chinese city of Hangzhou - may look
to further strengthening ties with China in traditional as well
as innovative sectors.
