The EU is not repatriating
enough undocumented migrants or relocating enough asylum
seekers, Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Friday.
"We decided along with France and Germany to become the
driving force behind the repatriation of undocumented migrants,
which has been Europe's weak point thus far," he said after a
meeting of G6 interior ministers.
Alfano said European Commissioner for Migration and Home
Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos "pushes very hard on (refugee
relocation) but selfishness sometimes comes from individual
states and not the European Commission".
"The hope is that common sense will prevail because it's
absurd to imagine that after all that Italy has done, it will
not be rewarded with the relocation of thousands of migrants,"
Alfano said.
